Nintendo’s Splatoon 3 Video Game on Amazon Lockers

OVERVIEW

Nintendo’s Splatoon 3 for the Nintendo Switch launched on September 9, 2022. To promote the launch, Nintendo collaborated with Amazon to create a custom campaign experience. Splatoon 3’s release was showcased on a custom Amazon landing page and Amazon Go and Campus Lockers wrap.

As the designer for this project, I designed the Splatoon 3 locker wrap, which was installed at 42 Amazon Go and Campus locations across the US. These installations covered nearly 60% of the Lockers network. The locker wrap included key art and a uniquely created QR code that directed customers to a custom landing page.

I also designed the custom landing page using Figma, incorporating graphic elements and “surprise and delight” animations to create an engaging experience. It was purposefully designed to be responsive, with elements scaling proportionally to the size of the window. The landing page featured a shopping experience for the new Splatoon 3 game, along with informational content about the game. To enhance the page’s interactivity, I provided direction to the design technologist for interactions and animation.

In addition to the custom landing page, media drivers for Fire TV and Fire Tablet were created to promote the game. The Fire TV experience featured the Splatoon 3 trailer, allowing customers to learn more about the game. Customers can watch the trailer again, purchase the game directly on their TV, or scan the QR code to access the custom landing page experience.

Overall, this collaboration between Nintendo and Amazon successfully promoted the launch of Splatoon 3 to a wide audience, leveraging innovative design and interactivity to create an engaging customer experience.
