Personal Branding & Visual Identity

OVERVIEW

I am an immigrant from Cambodia, and grew up in a household that continues to celebrate our culture while living in the United States. I wanted to create a personal brand and visual identity that was inspired by my name and cultural background. Many of the design elements that were incorporated into the branding came from the Cambodian culture, specifically in the bas reliefs found on the Angkor Wat temple.

Logo

The logo was designed to be bold, yet elegant. I chose to use the typeface “Lust” as the base for the design because it combined these attributes. The lowercase ‘r’ terminal and uppercase ‘R’ leg visually represent to me the calligraphic lettering of the Khmer alphabet, creating a double ‘R’ ligature.

Lotus Illustration

The ‘Lotus’ line art illustration is based on the top-view of the lotus flower, which is a symbol of purity and enlightenment in Cambodian culture. In design, the lotus symbolizes the potential for beauty and growth. The way that the lotus rises above the muddy waters to bloom into a beautiful flower is a metaphor for the design process, that often involves navigating through challenges to achieve a product that is both aesthetically pleasing and functional. The lotus serves as an inspiration and reminds me to stay resilient, persevere through obstacles, and trust in the power of growth and transformation.

AR experience

My business card and letterhead designs utilize the logo and line art illustration. The front of the business card contains a uniquely designed QR code that launches an Adobe Aero AR experience. When the QR code is scanned on a mobile device, it will prompt the user to locate the image that is on the backside of the business card. When the Aero player is activated, the design will display on your mobile screen as a 3-dimensional version of the floral graphic and includes links to my website, resume, email and LinkedIn profile.
